The University of Washington Newman Center is the Catholic Church for the University community. The parish is largely made up of students looking to participate actively in their Catholic faith and to grow spiritually in a community with others of similar faith backgrounds. Although most of the members of our community are UW students and people who live in the University District, all are welcome to our community.
Mass is celebrated our our center daily (except Saturdays). In addition to celebrating the Mass, the Newman Center sponsors many activities such as Bible studies, guest speakers, community service and, of course, social events!
Our Mission
We believe that Jesus has called each of us by name to be Church, the gathering of the People of God. We believe that Jesus calls us to be in community as this Church, the Prince of Peace Newman Center at the University of Washington.
Above all, we want our community to be a place of welcome: to be a place of welcome and joy as we worship together, caring for all those who come here, to be a place of welcome and resource for those seeking to learn about scripture, sacraments and the Catholic tradition, to be a place of welcome, hope and solace for those in need, both within our own community and in the world. We know that our God is not only discovered here but beyond these walls in other peoples and communities. We therefore also welcome those who are not members of the Catholic tradition to join with us in those events--worship and social--to the extent they feel called by the Spirit.
As a Newman Center, our special outreach and the reason we are formed is to share the Good News with the University community: students, faculty and staff, but we also welcome those not associated with the University in a formal way, to join us in this task of realizing the Incarnation on this campus.
Jesus has called us by name and made us welcome. We, the community of the UW Newman Center now extend this welcome to all who enter and invite you to join us in making this house a true place of peace.
